How it works?

The game is based on the resemblance of numeric digits if looked at upside down and letters:

  • “0” represents “O” or “D”
  • “1” looks like “I”
  • “2” resembles “Z”
  • “3” stands for “E”
  • “4” appears as “h”


  • “5” is used as “S”
  • “6” is considered to be a lowercase “g”
  • “7” corresponds to “L”
  • “8” transforms to “B”
  • “9” renders a capital “G”

Other variants of spelling

There are other variants of the game which makes it even more captivating for inquisitive minds! You can not only turn your calculator upside down but also rotate it 90 degrees clockwise or counterclockwise from upright or even turn it towards a mirror!


  • If you rotate your calculator 90 degrees clockwise from upright, numeric digits “2”, “3”, “4”, “5”, “6”, “7”, “8”, “9” will appear as “N”, “W”, “c”, “u”, “a”, “J”, “oo”, “b”, respectively.
  • 90-degree counterclockwise rotation will transform digits “2”, “3”, “4”, “5”, “6”, “7”, “8”, “9” to “N”, “M”, “J”, “u”, “b”, “c/r”, “oo”, “a”, respectively.
  • Finally, if you place a calculator in front of a mirror, digits “2”, “3”, “4”, “5”, “6”, “7”, “8”, “9” will resemble “S”, “E”, “Y”, “Z”, “a”, “r/T”, “B”, “e”, respectively.
